Run Across a Mountain Range in One Day!!

I have been doing a good job of keeping myself busy this summer. I have made the full conversion to being a Californian. I have consolidated my cell-phones into a 510-Oakland! phone number. I also purchased two surfboards and have them hanging on my wall in my room. The surfboards are still far outnumbered by skis in the bedroom!
In between teaching myself how to surf, read that "getting tossed by the ocean" I have done more distance running than I ever thought I would. Stefan and I decided we should Run Across a Mountain Range in One Day. An event I aptly named: RAMROD. We had hopes of gathering 4 more people willing to commit to this run, but only found two foolish enough men: Yu K. and Alex C.
The 4 of us trained with several meeting at Redwood Regional Park to train our hearts and Cato's Ale House to relieve our pain. During these meeting we would run for 1, 2, or even 3 hours at a time and discuss our masochistic tendencies as well as develop our plans, back up plans, equipment lists, etc.
Originally we thought about a 30+ mile route crossing over 14,000ft (4000m); however, for our first attempt at RAMROD we decided to take a safer route. We decided ran from North Lake on the East Side to Florence Lake on the West. North Lake is a beautiful lake stocked with trout just southwest of Bishop. Florence Lake is a reservoir on the East Side of the Sierra’s that provides a ferry service if desired to the other end of the trail providing quicker access to the John Muir Trail. Our path was 28 miles and crested just shy of 13,000ft. Our estimates including water/ food/ and toilette breaks, and accounting for the technical terrain we would be covering that it would take nearly 8 hours to complete. When it was all done it took us 8 hours and 26 minutes; however, we did make a 26 minute break to swim at the east side of Florence Lake with 4 miles to go. We had not originally accounted for the pre-finish swim so we ran exactly 8 hours! Excactly as planned! Nice work guys. It was an absolutely beautiful run. okay, that's crazy... but awesome! I'm impressed and inspired. Maybe I'll go run across a mountain range in one day. I've got plenty in my backyard...
