I finished the event (and the year) ranked 9th! Adding my name to the list of the top ten Telemark Skiers in the North America is great, and it is exactly what I set out to do this year.
It was a great weekend of March 24th in Crested Butte, Co. The weekend started with thin conditions on the Headwall. The judges were forced to make cuts after each run, but we did get two runs in on Friday. I pass into the Finals with much excitement, which helped deal with the pain in my left hip. The pain was from tagg'n a rock during a jump turn gnarly middle section of the HeadWall.
Saturday started cold and with fresh snow! This snow was almost entirely washed off the venue after inspection. Headwall again! No worries, I explored a couple other lines, but ultimately decided to stick with the line I knew. I skied it well and excelled the standings and was now tied for 8th place.
The excitement that fills you when the call you for the super finals is immense! I was so stoked! Unforunately, clouds rolled in for the super final runs...especially the mens. I skied my line, got a little hung up on the thin cover, but kept my skis under my ass and skied into the bumps with a lot of speed. Gathered myself, though it wasn't pretty and finished the run. Not good enough to climb any higher in the ranks, but not bad enough to drop me out of the top 10. Number Nine! Number NINE!
that is till next year...
