Friday January 19th - Denver

We awoke early after our rest day. No new snow, but it was still a week day so the mountain was not to be crowded. Stefan had acquired a large blister on the inside of his heel due to a fold in his sock. Eager to go skiing, he pulled his sock up over the blister and put his foot into his boot, ripping the entire scab clean off. Stefan then went through the same pain pulling his foot out of the boot. This was all to painful, so he elected to stay behind and save his foot for Saturday.

Scott and I headed up to A-basin to meet B-Ral, Christie, Brynna, and Paul Zalesk. BRal Christie and Bral went for a lesson while Z, Scott, and I headed out for some fun. Couple runs in bounds made sure we were warmed up, then we headed out the gate and toward the Steep Gullies. We looked into #1, but the snow coverage was not enough. Scott and Gfunk were looking to make a couple turns while billygoat’n around rocks, so we dropped into Gulley #2. The snow was variable at best, but some turns were made and rocks avoided and the Gulley was ours. The bottom rewarded us with powder in the trees. Hitch’n a ride back to the Basin was easy, the girls that picked me up calmly asked me to “Open the back and stick it in.” We finished the day making turns with Bral, Christie and Brynna. Zaleski joined us for the last couple runs when he was finished crying about his shin-bang. Dinner with E.Johanni at Benny’s in Denver with a plethora of Margaritas.
